The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported multiple emergency responses following Wednesday’s heavy downpour, which triggered both flood rescues and fire outbreaks across parts of the Greater Accra Region.
At Oyarifa, firefighters from the Madina Fire Station contained a blaze involving an ECG meter board within a residential facility around 5:30 p.m. No casualties were recorded.
Later that evening, rescue teams from the same station responded to two separate flood incidents at Oyarifa KB Junction and Old Ashongman near Bohye Church. Nine persons trapped by floodwaters were successfully rescued without injuries.
Around 9:49 p.m., GNFS crews contained a fire involving underground cables behind a residential facility near the Kanda Post Office. No casualties were reported, and investigations are ongoing.
In the early hours of Thursday, firefighters responded to several incidents. At Makola, a shop opposite the Accra City Fire Station was found partially damaged by fire, which had already been extinguished before their arrival at 12:50 a.m. At Nungua Cold Store Area, a residential structure near the police station was partially burnt at 1:56 a.m., with no casualties reported.
At 4:03 a.m., firefighters from the Amasaman Fire Station tackled a blaze involving an ECG pole with installed meters at Kuntense Satellite. The meters were completely destroyed, and the cause remains under investigation.
GNFS commended the swift response of firefighters across all affected stations and urged the public to remain vigilant during and after heavy rains. The Service reminded residents to call its hotlines — 112, 0302772446, or 0299340383 — for immediate assistance in emergencies.
