The Committee on Public Administration and State Interest has intensified its oversight role over State Interest Institutions (SIIs) through a capacity-building workshop focused on performance, accountability, and parliamentary supervision.
The workshop provided members with practical insights into managing SIIs, with emphasis on strengthening institutional accountability while safeguarding operational independence.
Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte, Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), highlighted the importance of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), performance contracts, and corporate governance frameworks. He explained that these tools are critical for tracking service delivery, financial health, and operational efficiency across SIIs.
Moderated by Hon. Lawrence Agyinsam and Hon. Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, discussions underscored the vital role of parliamentary committees in ensuring effective oversight. The session also examined how ethics and strategic communication can build public trust and enhance the delivery of institutional mandates.
Dr. Nancy Myles of the University of Ghana contributed valuable perspectives on ethics and communication, stressing that transparency and credibility remain central to the success of State Interest Institutions.
The workshop forms part of Parliament’s broader efforts to strengthen governance structures and ensure that SIIs operate with efficiency, accountability, and integrity.
