Ghana defender Portia Boakye has been shortlisted for the 2026 CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award, earning recognition among Africa’s finest female footballers.
The Black Queens star is one of ten nominees announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the prestigious individual accolade. Boakye is joined on the shortlist by Marine Dafeur (Algeria), Marie Ngah Manga (Cameroon), Michaely Bihina (Cameroon), Monique Ngock (Cameroon), Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi), Temwa Chawinga (Malawi), Hanane Ait El Haj (Morocco), Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa) and Barbra Banda (Zambia).

Boakye’s nomination highlights her impressive performances for both club and country over the past year and marks a significant achievement for Ghanaian women’s football on the continental stage.
In the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year category, Cameroon’s Michaely Bihina was also nominated, alongside Chloe Ngazi (Algeria), Cynthia Konlan (Benin), Mercy Sikelo (Rwanda), Fatoumata Karantao (Mali), Khadija Er-Rmichi (Morocco), Christiana Uzoma (Nigeria), Adji Ndiaye (Senegal), Kaylin Swart (South Africa) and Hazel Nali (Zambia).

The CAF Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of African footballers, coaches and officials, with winners set to be announced at the annual awards ceremony later this year.
For Ghana, all eyes will be on Boakye as she vies for one of African football’s highest individual honours and seeks to become the latest Ghanaian player to claim continental recognition.
