Ghana and China have reaffirmed their longstanding economic partnership as a seven‑member delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs and academics paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in Accra on Monday, July 27.
The delegation, led by Professor Haoxing Zhao, Dean of the China‑Africa Economic and Trade Research Institute and founder of the China‑Africa Bridge, engaged ministry officials on opportunities to expand business collaboration, investment, and trade. Professor Zhao said the visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and fostering partnerships between Chinese enterprises, universities, and Ghanaian institutions. He noted that the team was particularly interested in working with Ghana to establish an industrial park to support manufacturing, education, and entrepreneurship development.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Minister, Deputy Minister Hon. Sampson Ahi described the visit as a reflection of the enduring relationship between Ghana and China, which has spanned 66 years. He commended China’s zero‑tariff initiative, noting that it would open greater access for Ghanaian businesses to the Chinese market. Hon. Ahi emphasized Ghana’s strategic role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, positioning the country as a gateway to the wider African market.
“Your investment will be protected. We are ready for business and we will support you as a government,” he assured the delegation.
The visit forms part of ongoing Ghana‑China cooperation initiatives, including the “Ghana Day” event held in Hangzhou and the establishment of the Ghana‑Hangzhou Economic and Trade Centre, which connects Ghanaian products and businesses with the Chinese market.
