The Ghana Lebanon Islamic Secondary School (GLISS) has launched its SRC Week and Homecoming celebration.
The event was held on Monday, 14 March 2022 at the school campus.
In his welcome address, the SRC President of the school, Yussif Abdul Mumin extended his gratitude to the leadership of the school and the alumni for their efforts in ensuring that the SRC Week and Homecoming celebration kickstarts successfully.
He said the SRC’s agenda is to bridge the gap between the old students association and the school because it serves as a major stakeholder in the affairs of the school.
“When we took over the office of the SRC, one of our agenda is to bridge the gap between the old students association and the school. The old students association is a major stakeholder of this institution and bridging the gap between GLOSA and GLISS is going to bring a lot of development in different sectors of the school hence the merged week-long celebration,” he said.
The president of the GLISS Old Students Association (GLOSA), Tahiru Umar Farouk on his part, said the essence of the Homecoming is for GLOSA to reconnect with the current students and also inspire them to strive for greater heights.
The guest speaker for the occasion, who was also an alumnus and teacher at the school, Abdul Hamid Abubakar Bansi, speaking on the topic,” Integrity: a long lost treasure” said he was very elated to be part of the celebration and recounted his days as both a student and a teacher.
He entreated the students to strive to have good character that would shape their integrity.
“When we talk about character, one of the things that determine how good a person’s character is, is what we call integrity. And what is integrity? Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles,” he indicated.
He said having integrity is very crucial for the students because everything starts when in school. “The leaders that we have steering the affairs of the country today were once like you and the corruption that we see in the system starts from this level, it started from the days when they were students. If you think corruption is rife in this country, try student politics… ”
He further urged the students to study hard and strive to leave a legacy after school.
The headmaster of the school, Mr. Ismaila Mohammed urged the students to be respectful, disciplined and hardworking because he said there is no substitute for hard work.
The GLISS SRC Week and Homecoming celebration is a week-long programme that starts from 14 to19 March 2022.
