Following President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to cushion consumers through a temporary reduction of GHS2.00 per litre in the regulatory margin on diesel, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has met with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and key stakeholders to discuss implementation of the measure.
Mr. Jinapor explained during the engagement that the relief will run for one month, covering August 2026, and will be subject to review within the period based on prevailing market conditions and other relevant factors.
“This intervention reflects government’s commitment to easing the burden on consumers while ensuring stability within the downstream petroleum sector. We will continue to monitor developments closely and take pragmatic decisions that protect the interests of Ghanaians,” the Minister stated.
The directive, announced earlier by the Presidency, is aimed at preventing transport fare hikes, containing inflationary pressures, and mitigating the pass-through effect of rising fuel costs on households and businesses.
The Ministry assured that it will work hand-in-hand with the NPA and industry players to ensure smooth implementation of the relief measure, while keeping the public informed of any adjustments that may be necessary.
