Local Government Minister Inspects Waste Facilities Following Presidential Directive

In line with President H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s directive of June 29 for swift evacuation of refuse, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has undertaken a working visit to waste management facilities in the Greater Accra Region to assess progress.

During his inspection of Zoomlion’s Integrated Recycling & Compost Plant Limited (IRECOP) in Accra, the Minister disclosed that five of the six Waste Transfer Stations are now fully operational, with a 24‑hour evacuation system set to commence at Jamestown. He further announced plans to formally integrate over 4,000 tricycle waste collectors into Ghana’s waste management framework.

Hon. Ibrahim commended the Jospong Group of Companies for its swift intervention, describing its support as instrumental in averting a potential public health emergency. He revealed that he has been invited by the Council of State Sub‑Committee to brief them on the incident and subsequent actions, and by the President for final discussions on the matter.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Government’s vision of building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable nation.
