The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects — Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy — for trafficking young girls and forcing them into prostitution at Gbane, a suburb of the Talensi district.
Preliminary investigations revealed that suspect Peace Agbede lured one victim from Nigeria under the false promise of helping her join the Ghana movie industry. Upon arrival, however, Agbede took the victim to the Gbane-Tongo mining site and coerced her into prostitution, demanding daily payments of GHC 400.00.
The victim, who later became pregnant, gave birth on June 26, 2026. Police say Agbede and her accomplice Udo then attempted to convince her to sell the newborn for GHC 20,000.00 to an interested buyer.
A search of Agbede’s residence uncovered six sales recording books bearing names such as Esther, Mary, Bright, and Silver, along with 265 unused condoms. Police also rescued four female victims aged between 18 and 20 years.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned before court. Authorities emphasize that the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to dismantle trafficking networks and protect vulnerable young women from exploitation.
