The Majority Leader and Chairman of the Business Committee, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has presented the Business Statement for Parliament’s emergency meeting scheduled to end on Friday, 28th August 2026.
Hon. Ayariga explained that the recall was necessitated by urgent parliamentary business that could not be deferred. The House is expected to consider, among other matters, the presentation and First Reading of two key Bills: the Bank and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the National Petroleum Authority Bill, 2026.
In addition to legislative work, the Appointments Committee will vet Hon. Mahama Ayariga, nominated as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Hon. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, nominated as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology. The Committee will also vet three nominees for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court.
The emergency sitting underscores Parliament’s role in balancing legislative priorities with executive appointments, while ensuring that urgent national issues receive timely attention.
