Mahama Launches Cyber Security Awareness Month, Inaugurates 18-Member Committee

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated an 18-member Joint National Cyber Security Committee (JCC) as part of activities marking the launch of the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

The ceremony, held at Burma Camp in Accra, brought together senior government officials, security chiefs, and representatives of intelligence agencies.

Speaking on the theme “Building a Safe, Informed and Accountable Digital Space,” President Mahama underscored the importance of a coordinated national response to the growing threat of cybercrime.

“Cybersecurity must not be fragmented. It demands unity of purpose, a clear strategy, and disciplined education. Cyber‑crime ignores borders,” the President said, stressing the need for international collaboration to safeguard Ghana’s digital space.

The JCC, made up of representatives from the country’s security and intelligence agencies, is expected to drive coherence and proactive measures within Ghana’s national defence architecture.

President Mahama further called for sustained public education through school curricula, community training, and nationwide awareness campaigns to demystify cybersecurity and build a resilient digital citizenry.

He urged Ghanaians to embrace the month-long awareness activities, noting that the fight against cybercrime requires the active participation of all.

“Join us this Cybersecurity Awareness Month as we work together to build a safer digital space for everyone,” he added.

The National Cyber Security Awareness Month is observed annually to promote safe digital practices and strengthen national resilience against cyber threats.
