The Government of the Republic of Ghana and the Government of Japan have signed an Exchange of Notes on Japanese Grant Assistance for the Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) project, valued at JPY341 million (approximately US$2.11 million).
The agreement was signed by H.E. Amb. Khadija Iddrisu, Chief Director of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Yoshimoto Hiroshi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ghana.
The grant will support the implementation of the JDS Programme from April 1, 2027 to December 31, 2033, disbursed in five phases. The initiative will provide Ghanaian public sector officials with opportunities to pursue two-year Master’s degrees and three-year Ph.D. programmes at leading Japanese universities, including Kobe University, Ritsumeikan University, Nagasaki University, International Christian University, and the International University of Japan.
Since its introduction in Ghana in 2012, the JDS Programme has benefitted approximately 143 Ghanaian public officials, equipping them with advanced knowledge, technical expertise, and leadership skills to drive public sector reform and national development.
Officials noted that the new agreement underscores Japan’s longstanding commitment to Ghana’s socio-economic progress and further strengthens the enduring partnership between the two nations.
