NIGERIA TO JOIN GHANA COTE D’IVOIRE TO IMPLEMENT  LID FOR COCOA FARMERS

Director of Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abdullahi Abubakar says Nigeria is interested in joining Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire in implementing a Living Income Differential of 400 dollars on every tone of cocoa beans.

A delegation led by Mr. Abubakar met officials of of Ghana cocoaboard to understudy the operation.
According to Mr. Abubakar smallholder farmers are deprived of their yearly revenue because they are unable to collect LID due to the unregulated and liberalized cocoa industry in Nigeria.

The LID system will boast income of cocoa farmers with a premium charged in 100 billion dollars chocolate industry.
However, the Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo admonished Nigeria to put in places structures that will ensure a smooth running of the program.
