President John Dramani Mahama has celebrated the enduring bond between Ghana and Jamaica, reaffirming the shared history, cultural ties, and collective aspirations that connect Africa and the Caribbean.
Addressing a special joint sitting of the Jamaica Houses of Parliament, President Mahama reflected on the deep historical links between the two regions, declaring that “the story of Jamaica is, in many respects, the story of Africa.”
The President honoured the courage and sacrifices of enslaved Africans whose contributions shaped societies across the world, while stressing the importance of pursuing reparatory justice through truth, accountability, reconciliation, and healing.
President Mahama affirmed Ghana’s full support for Jamaica’s petition on slavery, which the country intends to submit to King Charles III. He further highlighted the resilience, excellence, and enduring achievements of people of African descent, noting that their story is not only one of struggle, but also a testament to strength and innovation.
The address underscored Ghana’s growing role in Pan-African diplomacy and Jamaica’s commitment to advancing Africa–Caribbean solidarity in pursuit of justice, unity, and shared prosperity.
