President Mahama Meets Boeing Officials on National Airline Revival Plan

President John Dramani Mahama has held discussions with officials of the Boeing Group as part of efforts to re-establish a national airline for Ghana, with preliminary studies indicating that the project is viable.

The meeting forms part of the government’s broader strategy to revive a national carrier and strengthen Ghana’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.

According to details from the engagement, a roadmap has been agreed for the establishment of the new airline. The plan includes the search for a strategic airline partner and a technical partner to support operations and growth.

Other key components of the roadmap include securing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), determining fleet requirements and making financing decisions necessary for the successful launch of the airline.

Officials from Boeing assured President Mahama of the company’s continued support throughout the process, from the airline’s establishment to its operational phase.

The government believes the national airline will help maximise the use of Ghana’s upgraded airport infrastructure while advancing President Mahama’s vision of transforming Accra into the premier aviation hub in West Africa.

Beyond improving connectivity, the proposed airline is expected to generate significant employment opportunities within the aviation sector. Thousands of jobs are projected to be created for pilots, cabin crew, aeronautical engineers and aviation management professionals, among other aviation-related roles.

The initiative is also expected to stimulate growth across the broader aviation value chain and contribute to Ghana’s long-term economic development agenda.
