The POPVOX‑DPP Foundation, in collaboration with the House Democracy Partnership, has launched the Digital Parliaments Project Africa at a capacity‑building training hosted in Ghana’s Parliament.
The initiative is designed to strengthen legislative processes across the continent by bridging the gap between research and parliamentary practice. It aims to enhance legislative effectiveness, improve governance outcomes, and foster modern, data‑driven systems within African legislatures.
Speaking at the launch, Ms. Marci Harris, Co‑Founder and Executive Director of POPVOX‑DPP, underscored the project’s focus on promoting transparency, accountability, and stronger institutional commitment among African Parliaments. She highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in shaping legislative work and pointed to the efficiency gains achieved through digitalisation in the United States Congress.
The event brought together representatives from several parliamentary institutions, including the Parliament of Ghana, Parliament of Botswana, Parliament of South Africa, National Assembly of The Gambia, National Assembly of Senegal, the Pan‑African Parliament, Parliamentary Network Africa, AFRIPAL, and the U.S. House of Representatives, alongside congressional support offices.
Organisers say the project will foster collaboration, innovation, and knowledge‑sharing across the region, supporting parliaments to adopt digital tools that strengthen legislative oversight and citizen engagement.
