MPs Raise Alarm Over Recurring Flooding

The Second Deputy Minority Whip and Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, together with the Member of Parliament for Effia Constituency, Hon. Isaac Yaw Boamah-Nyarko, has expressed grave concern over the recurring flooding crisis affecting communities across Ghana.

Making a statement on the floor of Parliament, the legislators noted that the increasing frequency and severity of floods continue to claim lives, destroy property, and disrupt economic activities and livelihoods nationwide.

They stressed the need for sustainable, long-term solutions rather than relying on seasonal emergency responses that have characterized flood management efforts over the years. The MPs urged both government and Parliament to intensify oversight and ensure the effective implementation of flood management policies to reduce the impact of future disasters.

The lawmakers further highlighted the importance of improved urban planning and stronger building regulations, insisting that future developments must incorporate environmental protection measures and proper drainage systems to mitigate flooding risks.
