A delegation from the United States Department of Treasury, accompanied by officials from the Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra, paid a working visit to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) on Friday, September 18, 2026.
The team was received by GoldBod Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., together with the Director of Responsible Mining, Prof. Ishmael Quaicoe, and the Deputy Director of Mining Operations, James German.
Mr. Nunekpeku briefed the delegation on GoldBod’s mandate under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), and its role in implementing the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Programme (GANRAP). He outlined key initiatives designed to strengthen Ghana’s gold value chain, including:
- Local gold refining to retain value within the country.
- National assay regime reforms to improve standards and credibility.
- Gold traceability solutions to ensure transparency from mine to export.
- Bankable geological assessments to support investment decisions.
- Formalisation of artisanal mining to integrate small‑scale miners into the regulated economy.
- Forest reclamation projects to restore degraded landscapes.
The discussions highlighted GoldBod’s strategic role in promoting responsible mining, strengthening reserves, and advancing Ghana’s ambition to become a hub for value‑added mineral production.
