Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has underscored the need for Ghana to strengthen its export sector, pledging greater support for exporters to drive economic transformation.
Dr. Bawumia made the remarks during a meeting with the Federation of Association of Ghana Exporters (FAGE), which brought together a diverse group of traditional and non‑traditional exporters. The discussions focused on barriers facing exporters and policy solutions to enhance competitiveness.
He noted that many of the economies Ghana seeks to emulate, including the Asian Tigers, are export‑driven and achieved success through targeted incentives for exporters. “I am convinced that we need to provide our exporters more support in the areas of the regulatory environment, standards, trade house infrastructure in countries we export to, land acquisition and protection, access to credit and the exchange and payments regime,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
The meeting also highlighted proposals from FAGE members, who shared ideas on how to improve Ghana’s export landscape. Dr. Bawumia expressed appreciation for their contributions, describing them as valuable to shaping future policy.
“My thanks to FAGE for their attendance and very valuable proposals and ideas they shared with our team,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to building an export‑driven economy.
