Health Minister Inaugurates Ghana Psychology Council Board

The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has officially inaugurated the newly constituted Advisory Board of the Ghana Psychology Council, with a call on members to provide strategic leadership and strengthen the regulation of psychological practice across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony in Accra, the Minister emphasized the crucial role of psychology in national development, particularly in addressing mental health challenges, workplace well-being, and social cohesion. He charged the board to ensure that professional standards are upheld and that practitioners operate within ethical guidelines to safeguard public trust.

The Advisory Board, made up of seasoned professionals and academics, is expected to advise the Council on policy direction, regulatory frameworks, and capacity-building initiatives. Hon. Akandoh noted that the government remains committed to supporting the Council in its mandate to regulate and promote psychological services, which are increasingly vital in Ghana’s healthcare system.

Chairperson of the newly inaugurated board expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work diligently to advance the Council’s mission. She highlighted the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, including universities, hospitals, and private practitioners, to expand access to quality psychological care nationwide.

The inauguration marks a significant step in strengthening Ghana’s mental health infrastructure, as the Council continues to position psychology as a cornerstone of holistic healthcare delivery.
