The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to elevating the Teshie Homowo Festival as a flagship cultural and tourism event in Ghana.
Appearing before Parliament to answer questions, Hon. Gomashie described the festival as a vital part of Ghana’s cultural heritage, with immense tourism and economic potential for the Ga-Dangme community and the nation at large.
She explained that through the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Ministry continues to support and promote the festival as part of efforts to strengthen cultural tourism and boost both domestic and international visitor arrivals.
According to the Minister, measures are underway to include the festival in the national tourism events calendar under the Black Star Experience initiative. She added that tour operators and hospitality establishments are being encouraged to develop festival-related tourism packages, while initiatives are being supported to preserve and showcase the rich cultural heritage, music, dance, cuisine, and traditions associated with Homowo.
Hon. Gomashie noted that these interventions are expected to increase tourist arrivals, stimulate local economic activity, create employment opportunities, and enhance tourism revenue for the Teshie community and the country as a whole.
