The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned a violent attack on Zohe Evangelical Presbyterian Schools in the Yendi Municipality, which disrupted academic activities and left the headmaster assaulted.
According to a statement issued on July 10, 2026, armed individuals stormed the schools on July 9 following a dispute between community members and school authorities over a commercial shed located on school premises. The headmaster, Mr. Mohammed Shani Gazali, was physically attacked during the incident. While no casualties were recorded, the invasion caused panic among pupils and staff, forcing the temporary closure of the schools.
GES said security personnel have since been deployed to restore calm and ensure the safety of learners and teachers. The Service emphasized its commitment to protecting educational institutions and urged community members to cooperate with authorities to prevent further disturbances.
“The safety of our pupils and staff remains paramount, and we will not tolerate acts of intimidation or violence against our schools,” the statement noted.
The GES assured stakeholders that investigations are underway and pledged to work with security agencies to safeguard teaching and learning across the country.
