The High Court has dismissed a motion filed by the accused persons in the ongoing National Petroleum Authority–Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (NPA–UPPF) corruption case, clearing the way for the substantive trial to proceed.
The application, which sought to strike out the charges against the accused, was ruled by the Court as “without merit.”
The case involves former NPA Chief Executive Officer Mustapha Abdul-Hamid; former UPPF Coordinator Jacob Kwamina Amuah; NPA staff member Wendy Newman; Bright Bediako-Mensah; Kwaku Aboagye Acquaah; and three companies — Propnest Limited, Kel Logistics Limited, and Kings Energy Limited.
The Republic has levelled 54 charges against the accused persons, including corruption and corruption-related offences, extortion, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
According to prosecutors, between 2022 and December 2024, approximately GH¢291.57 million and US$332,407 were unlawfully obtained through a scheme involving NPA officials. Portions of the funds were allegedly channelled through companies linked to some of the accused and used in transactions involving land, buildings, trucks, and fuel stations.
With the dismissal of the motion, the High Court has affirmed that the charges will stand, allowing the trial to continue into its substantive phase.
