A late‑night collision between two Granbird buses along the Kumasi–Accra Highway left 68 passengers injured, with swift rescue efforts preventing further tragedy.
The accident occurred at 10:31 p.m. and involved a VIP Granbird, registration GW‑5373‑23, owned by Chairman ION and driven by Mr. Simon Azuma, carrying 34 passengers, and a KN KIA Granbird, registration AK‑980‑26, owned by KOD Transport and driven by Mr. Francis Yeboah, also with 34 passengers.
Sixty‑seven victims who sustained various injuries were rescued by members of the public before emergency crews arrived and were conveyed to the Konongo Government Hospital. The VIP driver, trapped in the wreckage, was extricated by rescue personnel using a spreader in a dashboard roll method and transported by Ambulance GV 589‑20.
The cowl of the VIP Granbird and the rear of the KN KIA Granbird sustained partial damage. Authorities have launched investigations to determine the cause of the crash.
