The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the installation of state‑of‑the‑art security screening equipment at passenger checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of Accra International Airport, a move aimed at enhancing aviation security while improving passenger convenience.
According to a public notice, the upgraded system will allow travelers to keep laptops and other large electronic devices inside cabin baggage during screening. Passengers will also be able to proceed with shoes and belts on, unless otherwise required during profiling. Liquids, aerosols, and gels may remain in bags, provided they comply with the 100ml per container limit under international security regulations.
The new equipment includes an automatic tray return system designed to speed up passenger processing. Migration to the upgraded procedures will be phased in alongside existing systems, with GACL requesting cooperation from passengers and stakeholders during the transition.
Management emphasized that the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to modernizing airport operations and delivering a smoother travel experience while maintaining strict security standards.
