His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, paid a landmark visit to the Bank of Ghana’s Head Office at Bank Square on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, accompanied by a delegation of over 20 paramount and divisional chiefs.
The revered monarch was warmly received by Governor Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama and senior officials of the central bank. In his remarks, the Asantehene lauded the Bank’s headquarters as “a monument to our generation,” urging management to inspire staff to match the grandeur of the edifice with visionary service.
Acknowledging the Bank’s pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s economic trajectory, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II encouraged the institution to take decisive measures to keep the country on course. “We have come to listen, not preach,” he said, striking a tone of respectful engagement.
He advocated for lower interest rates to stimulate domestic investment and growth, and emphasized the importance of safeguarding the Bank’s independence from political interference.
Governor Dr. Asiama expressed deep appreciation for the Asantehene’s visit, describing his leadership as a source of wisdom and stability in national affairs. He outlined the Bank’s forward-looking vision, stating:
“Ghana’s recovery must now move beyond better statistics to better livelihoods. It must translate into jobs for the youth, stronger local industry, affordable credit that does not reignite inflation, and a financial system that supports enterprise and long-term investment. The Bank of Ghana is fully committed to playing its role, firmly, independently, and professionally, so that the gains we are beginning to see become durable and inclusive.”
The visit underscored the enduring relationship between traditional leadership and national institutions, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to Ghana’s economic resilience and inclusive development.
