The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the lead-up to the general elections on 7th December.
The GFP’s deputy General Secretary, Jeffery Offei Addo, announced at a press conference in Accra that the party has endorsed the NDC due to the alignment between the NDC’s campaign policies and the GFP’s core objectives.
He emphasised the importance of key proposals including the establishment of a Women’s Development Bank, free tertiary education for able-bodied individuals, and the creation of a 24- hour economy, aligning with the GFP’s dedication to advancing women’s development and enhancing the lives of the underprivileged.
Throughout the press conference, the party’s acting national chairman, national organiser, and national youth organiser denied allegations that the endorsement lacked agreement or contradicted the vision of the party’s late founder and former flagbearer, Akua Donkor.
Mr Addo declared that despite the late Akua Donkor’s past criticisms of John Mahama, the decision to support him and the NDC was justified, as the NDC’s vision for Ghana aligns with the GFP’s mission.
Mr Addo also refuted rumours that the NDC had persuaded the endorsement through external incentives, confirming that the decision was made entirely in the best interests of the nation and the GFP’s supporters.
“We have already begun campaigning for the NDC,” he declared, underscoring the party’s commitment to securing an NDC victory in the upcoming elections.
