The Ministry of Finance has inaugurated a nine-member Governing Board of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), with Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson unveiling plans to establish an “Auditors’ Court” to strengthen supervision of internal auditors and promote greater public scrutiny.
Dr. Forson underscored government’s commitment to improving the internal audit function within the public sector, assuring the Board of unwavering support to leave the Agency “stronger, more independent, and more impactful.”
“Your success must be reflected in the Auditor-General’s report,” he told the members, urging them to serve with integrity and add value to the operations of the Agency.
The Minister emphasized that the new mechanism would enhance accountability and ensure that internal auditors who fail to perform their duties face appropriate sanctions. He also encouraged the Agency to invest in professional development programmes to equip staff with the skills needed to maximize their capacity.
Responding on behalf of the Board, Chairperson Professor Joshua Yindenaba Abor, a qualified accountant and Professor of Finance with expertise in development finance and economics research, described the appointment as a “noble call to duty.” He pledged the Board’s commitment to promoting accountability and ensuring value for money in the management of public resources.
The inauguration forms part of government’s broader fiscal reform agenda aimed at reducing waste, strengthening compliance, and restoring public confidence in financial governance.
