The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of two suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a string of violent attacks in the Bolgatanga metropolis and along the Bolgatanga–Walewale highway.
The suspects, identified as Moses Akungoe (alias “Mosbee”) and Jacob Akugri (alias “Weezy”), were apprehended on May 9 in Kumasi by a team from the CID Headquarters Operations Unit. Their capture followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance operations in Bolgatanga and Walewale.
Preliminary investigations suggest the duo were part of a larger robbery gang armed with AK47 rifles and pistols, targeting victims in the Upper East and North East Regions. The gang is alleged to have robbed individuals of cash, motorbikes, and mobile phones, with some incidents tragically resulting in deaths.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to their involvement in several robberies and named Issaka as the alleged gang leader, with another accomplice known as Araafat. Both remain at large. Police say they are actively pursuing leads to apprehend these fugitives, as well as individuals suspected of supplying weapons to the gang.
The two suspects are currently in custody assisting investigations. Authorities are working to recover stolen items and identify other accomplices linked to the robberies.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring safety along the country’s highways.
