Vice President Meets Women in Engineering Ghana, Calls for Inclusive Development

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has met with Women in Engineering Ghana, an association dedicated to showcasing the vital role of women in national development. The meeting, held at the Vice President’s office, focused on mentorship, education, and inclusive participation in policy-making.

The Vice President commended the group for its strong mentorship initiatives, which she said are helping to guide and support the next generation of professionals. She emphasized the need to avoid early compartmentalization of children into narrow disciplines, advocating instead for a broad-based liberal education that equips young people with critical thinking skills to adapt to the rapidly changing world.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged the association to reflect, strategize, and rethink approaches to problem-solving, noting that national development requires innovative and inclusive conceptualization. She highlighted the critical role women play across all sectors and stressed the importance of making their voices heard, particularly during policy formulation. “Fear must never be a barrier to participation or leadership. Our perspectives matter, and they must shape the decisions that affect our lives and our nation,” she said.

The Vice President also underscored the importance of language in education, pointing out that teaching in local languages enhances understanding by connecting learning to a child’s immediate environment. This approach, she noted, strengthens comprehension and builds confidence at an early stage.

The meeting reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women and promote inclusive growth, while recognizing the transformative role of education and mentorship in shaping Ghana’s future.
