One year after the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight state officials and military personnel, President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to transform remembrance into a renewed commitment to service, unity, and national responsibility.
Speaking at the National Inter‑Faith Memorial Service in Accra, the President described remembrance as a sacred national obligation, stressing that “a country that forgets those who served it slowly forgets the values on which it is built.”
He urged leaders at every level to strengthen institutions, improve safety standards, and safeguard the welfare of those who dedicate their lives to serving the Republic. According to him, the greatest memorial to the departed is a nation committed to protecting its people and upholding the ideals they served.
The solemn service drew Vice President Jane Naana Opoku‑Agyemang, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, senior government officials, the Ghana Armed Forces High Command, religious leaders, traditional authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, bereaved families, and other distinguished guests.
The ceremony, marked by prayers, tributes, and calls for national renewal, underscored the enduring impact of the tragedy and the collective responsibility to honor the fallen through action and service.
