President Mahama Orders Expansion of Security Services Recruitment

President John Dramani Mahama has directed that recruitment into Ghana’s security services be significantly expanded, doubling the intake from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over the next four years.

The announcement followed a high-level meeting at the Jubilee House on Monday, March 16, 2026, attended by the Heads of Security Agencies, the Minister for the Interior, the Acting Minister for Defence, and senior presidential advisors.

According to the directive, the expansion aims to strengthen national security while creating employment opportunities for Ghanaian men and women. President Mahama emphasized that the recruitment process must be conducted with transparency and fairness, instructing agency heads to ensure merit-based selection.

Key officials present included the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the President, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, the National Security Coordinator, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of Prisons, the Director General of the Fire Service, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, confirmed the directive, noting that the expansion reflects the administration’s commitment to both national security and job creation.
