The Ghana Police Service has announced the retrieval of a massive haul of suspected cannabis concealed in a truck intercepted late last year in the Oti Region.
According to a statement from the Regional Headquarters in Dambai, officers stopped a Volvo truck with registration number GC 3522-09 at the Bonakye checkpoint on December 29, 2025, following intelligence reports that it was transporting illegal goods. The driver and another occupant fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
On February 24, 2026, the Jasikan Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Lambert Y. Kerieba, granted an order for the truck to be opened at Nkwanta. Representatives from the Police, Military, National Intelligence Bureau, Defence Intelligence, Ghana National Fire Service, Narcotics Control Commission (Jasikan), and members of the media witnessed the operation.
Inside the truck, officers discovered 320 cartons of bottled mineral water concealing 91 bales of suspected cannabis. The haul amounted to 7,173 slabs, with an estimated street value exceeding GHS 1.4 million. The seized exhibits have been retained as investigations continue.
The Police reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug trafficking and distribution, urging the public to volunteer information that could assist in crime prevention and detection.
