The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has convened a high-level stakeholder meeting to deliberate on the future of Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) platform.
The meeting brought together key players in the broadcasting industry to discuss strategies for ensuring the long-term sustainability of the platform, which the Minister described as the backbone of Ghana’s digital broadcasting with the widest national reach.
Hon. George emphasized the importance of collaboration, assuring stakeholders that no final decisions would be taken without broad consultation. Issues discussed included operational costs, quality of service, network stability, and infrastructure utilization.
As part of the deliberations, the Minister announced the establishment of a 13-member committee chaired by the National Communications Authority (NCA). The committee, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), National Media Commission (NMC), and KNet Ltd, has been tasked with developing a fair and transparent cost-sharing model for DTT operations.
The committee is expected to submit a preliminary report within 30 days, after which stakeholders will be re-engaged for further discussions.
The Minister reiterated government’s commitment to inclusivity and transparency in shaping the future of digital broadcasting in Ghana
