The Kotobabi District Police Command has arrested two suspected street robbers in a swift intelligence-led operation at Dzorwulu in Accra.
According to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the suspects—identified as Stephen Gletsu, 37, and Mohammed Sheriff, 20—were apprehended on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, after attempting to evade a police patrol team.
The suspects, dressed in all-black attire and riding an unregistered black Royal 125 motorbike, were spotted by officers on routine patrol. Sheriff, who was riding pillion, was wielding a cutlass. Upon noticing the police, the duo sped off, prompting a chase. Warning shots were fired, causing them to lose control near Roman Ridge, close to the Nigerian High Commission. They attempted to flee on foot but were arrested.
A search on the suspects led to the recovery of several stolen items, including multiple mobile phones—among them iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 13, Samsung A21, and Infinix models—as well as a necklace and cash amounting to GH¢2,690 and USD 2.
The suspects sustained injuries during the arrest and were treated at the Police Hospital before being discharged. During interrogation, they admitted to committing several robberies across the Accra Metropolis. Victims have since identified both suspects and their stolen belongings, recounting how they were attacked with a machete.
Further investigations have resulted in the arrest of four additional accomplices, who are assisting police. The two suspects have been remanded into custody and put before court, with a reappearance scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to fighting street robbery and other criminal activities in the capital.
