The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with unlawful possession of narcotics and an attempted bribery of GH₵100,000.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit on May 11, 2026, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation that intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck loaded with 1,600 parcels of suspected Indian hemp. The vehicle, tracked from Akosombo-Bonya to a location near Atua Government Hospital, was found transferring sacks into a Howo Zonda Tipper Truck.
Police secured both vehicles and their cargo after the initial group of suspects fled into the bush. Shortly afterward, 39-year-old welder Solomon Tettey of Atua surfaced, claiming ownership of the vehicles and the consignment, which he admitted was bound for Nigeria.
In an attempt to compromise the investigation, Tettey offered officers GH₵100,000. Police feigned interest to secure evidence, receiving GH₵90,000 via Mobile Money and GH₵10,000 in cash before moving in with backup from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit and Odumase Police to arrest him.
Two accomplices, Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later apprehended after appearing at the Regional Headquarters. All suspects and exhibits have since been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to integrity and the relentless pursuit of drug trafficking syndicates within the region.
