Parliamentary Committee Monitors Sites for 24-Hour Market Initiative

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development has embarked on a monitoring exercise to assess designated sites earmarked for the government’s flagship 24-hour market initiative.

As part of its oversight mandate, the Committee visited selected locations in Adum Banso, Ahantaman, Agona Nkwanta, and Sekondi to evaluate their suitability and preparedness for implementation. The initiative, which seeks to boost economic activity and create jobs by extending trading hours nationwide, is expected to transform local commerce and enhance rural development.

During the visit, representatives from the Mpohor District Assembly disclosed that traditional authorities have pledged their readiness to release additional parcels of land to accommodate future expansion of the markets. This gesture, they noted, reflects strong community support for the program and its potential to stimulate local economies.

The monitoring tour forms part of the Committee’s broader efforts to ensure effective planning, accountability, and the successful rollout of the 24-hour market program across the country. Members emphasized that such oversight is critical to guaranteeing that the initiative delivers on its promise of inclusive growth and improved livelihoods for Ghanaians.
