On Sunday 9th October 2022, the Muslim female graduate Association (MUFGA) in collaboration with the Islamic charity center for women’s orientation embarked upon breast cancer awareness campaign at Mamobi in Accra.
This is in line with the world wide breast cancer awareness campaign earmarked yearly in the month of October also referred to as the pink month.
Breast cancer awareness campaign aims at helping to conscientize high risk persons to go for early diagnosis, and treatment.
speaking to Baina TV, the president of MUFGA Hajia Amama Ahmed Muddy called on Ghanaians to take advantage of the pink month and visit the hospital or screening centres to have their breasts screened for early detection.
“There has been an increase in awareness of breast cancer by various organizations including civil society and non-governmental organizations in the country, most patients in the country report to the hospital late with an advanced stage of the disease, many months after first noticing a change in their breasts”. Hajia Amama said.
She also added that Women and girls must know how to examine their breasts to report any changes as early as possible.
According to her, it is very necessary to educate women on the causes of breast cancer. This, she said will encourage them to adopt healthy lifestyles to reduce their chances of getting the disease
Breast cancer affects Ghanaians from as young as 20 years but it is generally common as one gets older, with the majority of cases being between ages 40 – 49 years.
