Mahama Visits 37 Military Hospital to Console Injured Recruits After El-Wak Stampede

President John Dramani Mahama has paid a visit to the 37 Military Hospital to express sympathy and support for prospective military recruits who are receiving medical care following a tragic stampede earlier today at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

The incident, which occurred during a nationwide recruitment exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces, resulted in multiple injuries and fatalities as large crowds overwhelmed entry points at the stadium in Accra.

President Mahama’s visit to the hospital underscores the gravity of the situation and his administration’s concern for the well-being of the affected individuals. He interacted with the injured recruits, offered words of encouragement, and assured them of the government’s commitment to ensuring their full recovery and investigating the circumstances that led to the chaos.

The president’s visit follows his earlier directive to suspend the ongoing recruitment exercise and initiate a full-scale investigation into the events that led to the stampede. He has also called for reforms in the recruitment process to prioritize safety, order, and respect for human life.

The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that six people lost their lives in the incident and has urged the public to disregard unverified reports circulating about the tragedy.
