The Health promotion Unit and Welfare Clinic at Madina Polyclinic (Kekele Hospital) has launched the Breast cancer awareness month on Monday, October 3, 2022 at the forecourt of the hospital.
The event marks the start of series of activities targeted at creating breast cancer awareness every year, in the month of October which has been designated as world break cancer awareness month.
Also known as ‘Pink October’, people around the world adopt the pink colour and display a pink ribbon to raise awareness about breast health and the importance of screening for the early diagnosis of breast cancer, now the most commonly diagnosed cancer globally.
Present at the launch were the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Abena Kesiwaa, the Municipal Health Director, Dr. Mrs. Priscilla Anima Poku who also chaired the occasion, officials of the Municipal assembly, Health professionals and some residents.
In her speech, Madam Abena Kesiwaa encouraged women and those who are at risk to take advantage of the activities in the month of October and have their breasts examine for early detection can prevent the worse from happening.
On her part as the Municipal Health Director, took her audience through some education and touted the improvement in the management of cancer and advised that constant examination of the breast by those at high risk is the surest way for early detection.
She added, between 2019 and 2022, the total of 44 breast cancer cases have been recorded at the Kekele Hospital alone.
As part of the breast cancer awareness campaign, the Kekele hospital will carry out free breast cancer screening throughout the month of October.
