The Human Rights Court on Tuesday dismissed an application by former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, seeking permission to amend his writ and obtain discovery in his ongoing legal battle.
The application is part of a series of suits filed by Mr. Ofori-Atta challenging his designation as a wanted person and the arrest warrant issued against him.
In its ruling, the Court held that the documents requested by the applicant were unnecessary and amounted to a waste of judicial time. Consequently, costs of GHS 5,000 were awarded against Mr. Ofori-Atta.
The presiding judge noted that while the application for discovery had no merit, the substantive matter concerning the amendment of the original writ remains pending. That ruling has been adjourned to December 12, 2025.
Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal challenges have drawn significant public attention, given his former role as Finance Minister and the broader implications of his designation as a wanted person. The outcome of the substantive hearing is expected to shape the trajectory of his ongoing contest with law enforcement authorities.
