The Minority Caucus in Parliament has raised strong concerns over the High Court ruling that nullified the 2024 parliamentary election results for the Kpandai Constituency, describing the decision as inconsistent with the facts of the electoral process.
In a statement issued on 24th November 2025 and signed by Minority Leader Osafohen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Caucus maintained that the 2024 parliamentary election in Kpandai was conducted in a “transparent and accountable manner” and that the outcome accurately reflected the will of the electorate.
According to the Minority Caucus, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Hon. Mathew Nyindam, won the election with a margin of 3,734 votes after the Electoral Commission (EC) concluded the collation. The statement recounts how tensions arose when the NDC presidential and parliamentary candidate, Hon. Daniel Nsala Wakpal, allegedly led a group of supporters to the collation centre in an attempt to halt the process, claiming the EC lacked the required pink sheets.
Despite the disruption, the Electoral Commission reportedly proceeded, eventually declaring Hon. Nyindam the winner with 27,947 votes, while Hon. Wakpal secured 24,213 votes.
The Minority Caucus noted that Hon. Wakpal later challenged the results in court, arguing that he was absent during the collation in Tamale and citing clerical errors across several polling stations. However, the Caucus insisted that the main witness for the NDC testified that the total votes in contention were only about 500—far below the margin of victory.
“Even if the court had awarded all 500 votes to the NDC candidate, he would still have lost by more than 3,000 votes,” the caucus emphasised.
The Minority described the Tamale High Court’s decision to nullify the entire election and order a rerun as troubling, saying it “raises concerns because the facts did not support the ruling.” They also disclosed that both a notice of appeal and an application for stay of execution have been filed.
Reassuring the public, the Minority Caucus said it remains confident that the appellate process will reaffirm the democratic choice made by the people of Kpandai.
