Following hours of heavy rainfall that left several communities inundated, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have issued a joint public safety notice urging residents to exercise extreme caution around electricity installations.
The statement advised the public to promptly report fallen poles, exposed or fallen power lines, and flooded electrical installations to the nearest ECG office or through customer service channels. Officials stressed that quick reporting would enable rapid response and help prevent accidents.
GRIDCo and ECG acknowledged the inconvenience caused by ongoing power outages in affected areas, assuring customers that every effort is being made to restore supply once weather conditions improve. “Safety remains our highest priority,” the notice emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has also cautioned residents to avoid unnecessary movement until floodwaters recede. Motorists and pedestrians were warned not to attempt crossing flooded roads, bridges, or waterways. Emergency services — including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and NADMO — have been deployed to assist affected persons and undertake rescue operations.
Emergency hotlines remain active:
- Police Service: 18555 or 112
- Fire Service: 192
- NADMO: 112
The Ministry extended concern to all persons affected, assuring the public that government agencies are working tirelessly to safeguard lives and property.
