Ministry of Interior Issues Flood Safety Advisory

The Ministry of the Interior has urged the public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rains and flooding that struck several parts of the country this morning.

In a statement signed by Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry advised residents to remain where they are until conditions improve. Those at home were urged to stay indoors, while workers and others in safe locations were encouraged to remain there until travel is deemed safe.

Motorists and pedestrians were strongly cautioned against attempting to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, as floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose serious risks to life and property.

Emergency response services — including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) — have been deployed to assist affected persons, manage traffic, and undertake rescue operations.

Residents in flood-prone communities were advised to move to higher ground where possible and report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of remaining calm, cooperating with emergency personnel, and relying only on official channels for updates.

Emergency hotlines have been made available:

  • Ghana Police Service: 18555 or 112
  • Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS): 192
  • NADMO: 112

“The safety and well-being of the public remain Government’s highest priority,” the statement concluded, assuring citizens that every effort is being made to provide assistance and ensure public safety.
