The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called for a full parliamentary inquiry into the operations of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) following concerns over losses reported under the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
In a statement signed by Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei, the caucus said the losses were identified in an official International Monetary Fund (IMF) report and not fabricated by the Minority. The group insists that the matter is one of legitimate parliamentary oversight and demands a transparent reconciliation of GoldBod’s audited financial statements with the IMF’s findings.
The statement also addressed remarks made by GoldBod’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, who had publicly responded to the Minority’s queries. The caucus rejected what it described as “personal characterisations” directed at its members, stressing that accountability questions must be met with facts, not accusations.
“Public office in Ghana carries defined standards of civility, restraint and respect,” the statement read. “We expect every public official, including the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, to be held to those standards.”
The Minority reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing the matter through institutional channels and maintaining decorum in its oversight role. It emphasized that the public record should be settled by facts tested under parliamentary scrutiny, not by political exchanges.
The caucus assured Ghanaians that updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses.
