The University of Ghana has suspended all lectures and urged students and staff to remain indoors following heavy storms and flooding across Accra this morning.
In a statement, University Management emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of the community remain the institution’s highest priority. Students were advised to stay in their halls of residence, at home, or wherever they currently are, and not attempt to travel until conditions improve.
“All lectures are suspended until the situation improves,” the statement noted, cautioning against unnecessary movement as flooded roads pose serious risks.
Supervisors across the University have been directed to check on their teams, provide guidance to affected staff, and encourage calm while ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Staff were reminded to stay indoors, avoid floodwaters, maintain contact with their supervisors, and monitor updates from relevant authorities and the University.
Further guidance will be issued as conditions evolve, but in the meantime, staff and students have been urged to prioritize personal safety and support one another where possible.
Those requiring urgent assistance have been asked to reach out through the University’s established internal emergency contacts.
University Management concluded by encouraging all staff and students to “Stay Safe.”
