Ghana to Reopen Diplomatic Mission in Mexico

During a consultative visit to Mexico, Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP), formally conveyed the Government’s intent to reopen its Diplomatic Mission in Mexico. The move is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations through trade and investment, as well as cooperation in agriculture, education, tourism, innovation, and capacity building.

Ghana and Mexico established diplomatic ties in 1961, and over the years, the two countries have maintained constructive engagement built on mutual respect, solidarity, and a shared commitment to international cooperation.

Hon. Quayson’s message was warmly received by Mexican authorities, who assured their readiness to provide the necessary support to facilitate the reopening of the Mission. In discussions with Ambassador Maria Teresa Mercado, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs of Mexico, both sides emphasized the importance of expanding economic and technical cooperation. Areas highlighted included trade facilitation, technical exchange, cultural diplomacy, and education.

The reopening of the Mission is expected to enhance the delivery of consular services to Ghanaian nationals in Mexico and promote stronger people-to-people exchanges.

As part of his visit, the Deputy Minister also engaged members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of the business community, and other stakeholders. He underscored Ghana’s credentials as a preferred investment destination, citing the country’s stability, growing economy, and commitment to international partnerships.
