Ghana Successfully Evacuates Embassy Staff from Iran

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced the successful evacuation of all staff from the country’s embassy in Iran, citing safety concerns amid ongoing instability.

In a Facebook post, Ablakwa expressed relief that the diplomats are “safe and in high spirits” following the operation. He confirmed that Ghana’s embassy in Iran has been closed sine die, meaning indefinitely, as part of precautionary measures.

The Minister underscored government’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad, stating: “The safety, welfare and protection of Ghanaians remains our utmost priority in these tempestuous times.”

The evacuation marks a decisive step in Ghana’s broader foreign policy approach to safeguarding nationals in volatile regions. Officials say consular services will be redirected through alternative channels to ensure continued support for Ghanaians in the Middle East.
