Ghana and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, following a comprehensive assessment of cooperation and priority areas for 2026.
The meeting, hosted by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reviewed significant progress achieved in 2025. Acting US Ambassador Rolf Olson led the American delegation.
Officials welcomed the outcome of successful negotiations that secured Ghana’s exemption from visa sanctions and the $15,000 visa bonds imposed on several other countries by President Donald Trump. Ghana will continue to benefit from this exemption, ensuring smoother travel arrangements for citizens.
The discussions also acknowledged the removal of a 15 percent tariff on a wide range of unprocessed and semi-processed agricultural products from Ghana. Participants expressed satisfaction with the implementation of this measure, noting its positive impact on Ghanaian exports and trade relations.
The meeting concluded with renewed optimism about the future of Ghana-US cooperation, emphasizing shared priorities in governance, trade, and cultural exchange as both nations look ahead to 2026.
