Ghana, US Review Ties; New Visa Measures Ahead of World Cup

Ghana and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, following a comprehensive assessment of ongoing cooperation and future priorities.

The meeting, hosted by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reviewed significant progress achieved in 2025 and outlined new areas of collaboration for 2026. Officials emphasized that the partnership continues to deliver tangible benefits across governance, trade, education, and cultural exchange.

On preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Ghanaian representatives received assurances that special measures are being introduced to expedite visa applications. The initiative is expected to ease current delays in securing visa appointments, a challenge both sides acknowledged must be urgently addressed.

The US Embassy is set to hold a press conference in the coming days to announce details of the new World Cup Visa Application Initiatives, which aim to ensure smoother travel arrangements for fans, officials, and athletes.

The discussions underscored the shared commitment of Ghana and the United States to deepen cooperation while tackling practical challenges that affect citizens directly.
