Committee Reviews Roads Ministry Performance

The Committee on Economy and Development has met with the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to assess the Ministry’s performance against targets outlined in the 2024 National Annual Progress Report.

The session focused on achievements, gaps, and measures to strengthen economic sectors. Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, disclosed that approximately 65 percent of traffic signals nationwide are operational. He noted, however, that unpaid maintenance debts, vandalism, damage caused by utility companies, and theft of solar components continue to undermine the functionality of the remaining systems.

Hon. Agbodza emphasized the need for realistic targets aligned with available funding to improve project delivery and performance. He further assured the Committee that road projects initiated by previous administrations are being continued, stressing that infrastructure development must transcend political interests to ensure national progress and road safety.

The Committee underscored the importance of equitable distribution of road infrastructure across all Regions, highlighting that improved transportation services should benefit communities nationwide.
